Thursday Threesome: Three Black Widow Collectibles I Am Most Looking Forward To!

After a long hiatus it is once again my turn to nominate three random things on a Thursday, and seeing as how we’re talking about threesomes, I may as well aim high and focus on Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow! The Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier hype train is tooting its horn and waggling its caboose and we’re beginning to see a lot more Black Widow merchandise that is coming down the pipeline.

Which three items am I most looking forward to adding to my creepy shrine? Find out... after the jump!

Poor ol’ Scarjo actually got short-changed when it came to The Avengers merchandise. Yes, it’s true that they DID make a lot of stuff in her delightful image, but there were noticeable exceptions which suggests that they grossly underestimated the appeal of the character (no doubt due to her sleepwalking through the majority of Iron Man 2). We never got a Funko Pop Vinyl (and they even made Hawkeye!), we never got a bobblehead (and they even made Hawkeye!) and we didn’t get a Marvel Select (and they even made Hawkeye!). Well gird your loins, because all that is going to change...

1. Pop Vinyl Black Widow
Finally we get a Black Widow in vague, super-deformed, beady-eyed form! Funko have made a billion characters from a billion different licenses so its high time that she joined the ranks, even though you will have to summon the full powers of your imagination to see even the slightest hint of Scarjo in here. My only critique is that I wish we had a shorter haired Avengers version, and not just this longer, straight-haired version. Not that it makes a hell of a lot of difference in this style!

However...

2. Marvel Legends Black Widow
The ever popular Marvel Legends series has offered a surprising solution to the great hair conundrum. Their upcoming six inch (five inch? I have no idea) Black Widow figure is blessed with TWO glorious heads! You will be able to display with her Winter Soldier head, or the alternate Avengers version (an apology for not doing an Avengers figure at the time?). (Although I do believe that her costume has changed somewhat).

It’s a smart move because it pretty much guarantees that I’ll pick up two or more of these figures, assuming they are available. (Black Widow stuff seems to disappear pretty quickly). I might even make a nightmarish custom version with two heads on the same body. Kissing each other.

Also, hats off to the likeness which I really don’t think is too bad considering the price point and scale. We know it’s her, right? We don’t even have to squint too much.

Although...

3.Gentle Giant Black Widow Statue
Now for the big guns. This is the many hundred dollar 18 inch Black Widow statue from Gentle Giant which is said to be a complete digital scan of Scarlett’s actual body. Her face, her costume, her props. Every inch of her was explored by some lucky computer which no doubt now needs a new cooling fan.

It’s impressive, and allegedly the most accurate Scarlett to date, although I’m curious to see what Hot Toys come up with when they release images of their products for the film. This is indeed just the tip of the iceberg and we’re likely to see a hell of a lot more stuff in the coming weeks (most probably at NY Toy Fair).

My creepy shrine is going to be EPIC.
