13" Super Robot StratoMaxx by Acheson Creations

Our friends at Acheson Creations (creators of Kaiju Kaos), have created a throwback resin model kit of Super Robot StratoMaxx, a 13" giant robot inspired by everything from Shogun Warriors to Transformers. Well... they created a prototype and they're looking for funding via Kickstarter to start production on these.

As you would expect, there are plenty of weapon attachments, which not only attach to StratoMaxx, but they are compatible with Kaiju Kaos and other previous releases.

StratoMaxx runs for $100, but if you are going that far you might as well go for the recently announced custom paint jobs. There are some amazing artists involved including top Disney Vinylmation customizer Evilos, and my favorite, Ersico, who made some AWESOME custom M.U.S.C.L.E. figures.

There are only 4 days left to help Acheson Creations teal their goal of $2,995. If you can't go for the full $100, there are tons of other kits you can purchase to help the funding. Giant Coblin is a sweet deal at $20 and is a walking piece of corn. These guys do some great work. Check it out!

Thursday Threesome: Favourite K-Pop Songs of 2013 (so far)

I do love me a bit of K-Pop. The ultra-cute boy & girl bands, the crazily in-sync dance moves, and the sickly sweet pop beats make me ultra nostalgic for the glory days of Nsync, the Backstreet Boys and Five. Lucky I have a good reason for liking it, otherwise watching a whole bunch of teenagers dance around would just be creepy, amirite?? Heheheheh. Heh. Ehhhh...

There's been some quality pop choonz out of Korea already this year, so join me under the cut for a couple of my favourites. And no, don't worry, there's definitely no Psy.

Gravity Review

I love Hollywood blockbusters as much as the next guy. The US Summer movie season is my favourite part of the year but by the time September rolls around you're getting a little fatigued and looking for a little more substance. Thankfully this is the time of the year when we get a slew of high quality films that are a little less explosiony.

Gravity is a movie I didn't even know existed until a month or so ago. The trailer on it's own was genuinely gripping. Spacewalking astronauts caught in a disaster and left adrift in space? Terrifying. It had me in the palm of its hand straight away. This film immediately jumped to the top of my most anticipated list.

Did the final product live up to that fantastic teaser?

DC Comics New 52 - Stryder's Weekly Top 5

Hey folks, time to look at the final week of Villain's Month!  I think they were saving the best for last, as it was hard to pick just five this week!  Not to worry though, I narrowed it down...

All these comics were released on September 25, 2013.  Let's take a look, shall we?

Secret Society #1 - "We come from a different place.  A place where the sun sets in the East and the poles are littered with the frozen bodies of people seeking refuge."

Justice League #23.4 brings us the story of the Secret Society, which is really the story of one diabolical man and his dedication to an evil master.  That man?  The Outsider aka Alfred Pennyworth!  Ok, ok, The Outsider is actually the Alfred Pennyworth of Earth 3...a place where everything is backwards and everyone is evil (aside from the "villains", who are um...ambiguous...).

This comic expands on the story of how Earth 3 Alfred (along with Earth 3's version of Captain Atom aka Atomica) arrived on OUR Earth by showing us the events leading up to their trip!  It's our first real glimpse of Earth 3 society, and makes quite an interesting contrast to the regular DCU.  Obviously this comic ties heavily into Forever Evil.  It's really interesting to finally get a glimpse into the mind of Evil Alfred...he's been the cause of many problems for the various Justice Leagues, acting from the shadows, so it's great to finally see him step into the spotlight!

Four more foul and frantic fiends follow!  After the JUMP!

The Dresden Readthrough: Fool Moon

We continue our readthrough of Jim Butcher's uber-popular urban fantasy series The Dresden Files today with book two, Fool Moon. The continuing plan is to do a book a month on the first Tuesday of each month, and with 15 books on the publication schedule between now and when our readthrough is over, and perhaps our timing being good enough for the 16th, our reading list should be pretty full for the foreseeable future.

Anyway, enough chatter: Storm Front was good, but Fool Moon was great!

Best Music of the Third Quarter of 2013.

I continue to be impressed with the music coming out this year. In the last few months in particular, a number of albums have come out that are serious album of the year candidates for me, and they run the gamut from established acts to musicians offering their debut efforts. Some highlights are behind the jump, but those interested in more music stuff can check out If It's Too Loud for weekly new release reviews and other highlights from the musical universes.

FPcast! The Fruitless Pursuits Podcast for September 30th! Agents of Meh!

This week Luke and Courtney review the pilot episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., needlessly speculate on the toiletry habits of your favourite heroes, predict the villains of the newly announced Gotham TV show, get riled up about duelling Chewbaccas, and MORE! This is a silly, tangent-filled episode with lots of fun and progressively little focus! STICK IT IN YOUR LISTEN-HOLES!
