Nerd History: The Best Things I've Found on the Retro Campaigns Tumblr

The photo above is an image of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 34th President of the United States of America.

He is eating an ice cream bar.

This is some of the wacky stuff that gets posted occasionally on my favorite Tumblr blog, Retro Campaigns. It's a collection of historical documents, pictures, gifs, and other assorted things, like good old Dwight enjoying his ice cream. Follow beyond the jump for some President's Day fun from Retro Campaigns.

Socks the Cat Rocks the Hill was an unreleased Super Nintendo game, following the antics of President Bill Clinton's cat, Socks, where he would allegedly fight terrorism and Bill's allergies? We'll never know, as the publisher shut down before the game could be finished and released, but SNES Central has a significant compilation of screenshots and previews available.

The post is titled "Someone thought this was a good idea," and I agree. This is kind of hilarious, although attitudes about smoking have certainly evolved over the last 20 years. Still, I would have been 7 when these were around, and by then I was getting the anti-smoking message hammered home repeatedly, so...

Tagmire should use some of that sweet Pixel Lincoln cash to revive Teddy's Bear Hunt, a board game that revolves around Teddy Roosevelt's love of hunting and, according to the description, leads "to the finish mark: a bloodied bear laying on the ground." Fun for the whole family!

Either way, I thought these might be fun on a kind of silly United States holiday. The Tumblr is fun history for all sorts of good stuff.
