I think the My Little Pony fandom is more about sharing memes and being part of a subcultural Internet phenomenon than the show itself. Love it or hate it, it has a particular look and style that's unique, cloyingly cute and easy to imitate. There are just enough entertaining fan works and parodies (alongside admittedly awful ones) to make casual fans of teens and adults who aren't lost manchildren or furries. The Friendship is Witchcraft abridged series is amusing and Pony.mov is a sort of fascinatingly grotesque take on the characters. The hardcore bronies, the cosplayers and convention attendees, might be in a different ballpark though.
