Book adaptations into television shows or movies are a given, but often the adaptation doesn’t quite do the source material justice. Under the cut I talk about my favourite three recent adaptations of book characters for television and film and why I think they do their source material and their on-screen roles justice.

Jacinta's Favourite Films of 2012!

It was about time I stopped trying to cram all the movies I missed in 2012 and deliver my final favourites list before we get to 2014. So here we are! I put a fair bit of effort into my movie-watching in 2012, so I had quite a few to choose from which unfortunately led to some tough decisions! I've cheated a little bit and done a top 15 instead of a top 10. If I'd tried to do a top 10 of 'Best Movies' vs 'My Favourites' they probably would have looked quite different, so in my Top 15 I've tried to include the best of what would have been on both those lists.

Luke's Top Ten Favourite Films of 2012!

This is the big one! My Ten Favourite Films of 2012 which are sure to piss you off just a little bit. But let me make an obligatory proviso. These are my personal favourites not necessarily the best films ever made (although a couple might be). But let me tell YOU what pisses ME off...

We are a pop culture site. We talk about all sorts of silly, fun, over-the-top genre movies. What I hate is that there are so many sites out there that spend all frigging year giving you every tiny bit of news about these big, silly, blockbuster movies BUT THEN when it's time to their end of year lists, they populate them mostly with Oscar favourites, and obscure foreign films. EVEN THOUGH THE DUMB BLOCKBUSTERS HAVE BEEN GENERATING THEIR TRAFFIC ALL YEAR!

Look, either this stuff is worth talking about it or not. I like escapism. I go to the movies to have a good time. The films that stuck with me throughout my life are silly escapist films like Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Back to the Future, Labyrinth, and Batman. I make no apologies for that. And if you enjoy fantasy, sci-fi and comic books then my god has 2012 got you covered.

Katniss Barbie - yep, really

This is somewhat of a surprise to me. Obviously The Hunger Games has done all kinds of crazy things to previous box office records, and logic says there'd be a certain degree of merchandising - leaning to the more teenage/adult spectrum, surely - and thus I was NOT expecting a Katniss Barbie. Not in a million years.
