Thursday Threesome - Three Favourite INJUSTICE Fighters

Hey folks!  You may already be playing the DC Universe fighting game released last week, Injustice: Gods Among Us, for PS3 and Xbox360.  If you're a fan of comic books or fighting games, you really ought to pick it up!  Our own Luke Milton reviewed it last week HERE

My opinion of the game is more positive than Luke's, I have to say.  Go figure...the guy who reads 30+ comics a week likes the comic book video game!  I thought the story mode, while a little silly, was also pretty riveting...the voice acting was good and it was nice to hear some familiar actors from the various WB cartoons from years past!  It was also incredibly entertaining watching the writers juggle new ways to try and make staged, one-on-one battles happen organically, over and over again!  There were a few surprises, Easter eggs and fan nods in the narrative and overall I thought it'd make a great 2-part episode of Justice League Unlimited!

My main fear when I bought the game was that it would be impossible for me to play since I'm terrible at fighting games, and Mortal Kombat in particular!  This fear was happily mitigated when I realized that on medium difficulty, even a clueless all-thumbs gamer such as myself can win 2/3 of the battles!

BUT this is not a video game review, is it?  This is Thursday Threesome!  Join me after the JUMP as I share the three characters I've found most fun so far, and the reasons why!

1.  Superman - The Man of Steel has always been, if not my favourite superhero, at least in my top two!  In many ways Batman is a more interesting character, but Superman is who I'd rather be, if that makes sense?  I never could decide who was my #1 hero...however, in Injustice it's Superman all the way!  I love the variety and simplicity of Kal-El's move list...I can get off a lot of his special moves and combos without straining brain or fingers and it's FUN!  Playing Superman is great!  I've known that since I was a 3 year old with a towel tied around my neck, and not much has changed since...

2.  The Joker - Ok, I'll admit I feel a certain kinship with the Joker.  I don't want to hurt anyone, but when chaos comes calling and the walls are caving in, my first instinct is to laugh and laugh and laugh...it's gotten me in some trouble in the past...

So yeah I like the Joker's style...not only that, but he's a great fighter in this game!  Fast and furious, almost all of his moves strike like an angry rattlesnake!  And he has such a wide variety...knives and crowbars and chattering teeth and a ludicrously over-sized handgun and more!

And when you win with the Joker?  The camera is from your victim's point of view, as Joker pours gasoline all over you and lights a match, humming a cheerful tune all the time.  He he he HAhahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAaaaaahahaaaa.........uh....what were we talking about?

3.  Nightwing - Wha???  You thought for SURE I was gonna say BATMAN, right?  Well, Nightwing is a KIND of Batman!  That's not why I chose him though...the reasons are two-fold.  First, because the former Boy Wonder is a great in-game fighter...super fast, intuitive, cool combos and chains that seem to come naturaly to me.  I always like the faster characters in fighting games (I used to be addicted to Chun-Li back in the day) and Nightwing fits the bill!  Especially as he can use his escrima sticks seperately at lightning speed or combined into a staff, making him slightly slower but giving him great reach.

The other reason I picked Nightwing involves a shocking in-game development that I won't spoil here...anyone who's played the game and who also reads my weekly comic reviews will easil;y guess it...I'd like to say more, but don't want to give anything away!

So there you go!  My top three favourite characters to play!

Honourable mention, of course, is the Dark Knight.  Of course he's fun to play!  He's the BATMAN!

Happy Punching!
