DC Comics New 52 - Stryder's Weekly Top 5

Welcome to September!  Man these weeks keep flying by...

Oh well here's one last taste of Summer!  Today's comics were released on August 28th, 2013:

Justice League #23 - "I am an outsider to this world.  I am The Outsider.  And I serve my master well."

It's the final chapter of "Trinity War"!  Finally the answers to so many of the Justice League's little mysteries have been revealed!  Like, who is the Outsider?  What does he want?  What is Pandora's Box really?  Did Superman really MURDER Dr. Light?  All of these questions and more are answered here!  However, the story is far from over...this book leads directly into the new miniseries premiering in September (along with the "Villain's Month" titles) Forever Evil!

Anyway this was a really cool issue with several mind-blowing reveals and at least 2 out-of-left-field brain-breaking moments!  I can't wait to find out what comes next!!

What else is going on in the DCU?  Find out after the JUMP!

Batman Superman #3 - "Young Clark just heard old Clark's heart skip.  And now, for the first time...he's scared."

This title just keeps getting better every issue!  A very young Superman and Batman (who only just met each other) have been kidnapped to Earth 2 where they've encountered their older, wiser counterparts!  All due to some enigmatic plan of Kaiyo, the "Chaos Bringer"...a mischievous demi-god?  OR something to that effect.  Oh and of course Darkseid has some involvement too!

There's some great storytelling here, particularly in a childhood meeting between Earth 2 Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent (not to mention Alfred Pennyworth and Jonathan "Pa" Kent) that's just great!  Add to that the amazing art by both Jae Lee and (on flashbacks) Yildiray Cinar!  I want a poster of practically every page.  Very cool!

Aquaman #23 - "Swim, Mera.  FAST."

Aquaman and Mera are really having a bad day.  They need to escape Xebel, Mera's home and an Atlantian prison colony, where the Dead King has seized control!  Of course, that will simply take them from the frying pan to the fire, as The Scavenger and his army of scuba divers and submarines are laying waste to Atlantis!  Oh, and Atlantis' fiercest warriors are A.W.O.L., having sneaked up to the surface world to free Ocean Master!  Is the underwater kingdom doomed?  It sure seems like it...

I'm constantly amazed how much I like this version of Aquaman.  Just stop and read that last sentence again.  Aquaman!  Wow!

Batman, Incorporated Special #1 - "Computer, initiate Batman, Incorporated case files..."

As a bit of a swan song for Batman, Incorporated, we get this Special featuring 5 stories about the various Batman, Inc members we've gotten to know and love over the years.  From Japan to London, from Buenos Aires to Gotham City, we see a "day in the life" of heroes like Squire, Raven Red, El Gaucho and yes, Batcow...

Oh Batcow...

This was a cool and fun comic!  Some very good stories and artwork from a variety of creative teams!  The Squire story was my personal favourite...It's nice to have some follow up on Beryl after she lost her partner, The Knight, to the Heretic a few issues back.  The death of the Knight was overshadowed by Damian's death right afterwards, but he still deserved this follow-up!  AND so did Batman, Incorporated!  I'm going to miss this comic a lot.  End of an era!

The Flash #23 - "I don't know what he wants, who he is, or why he killed my friends...but this stops now!"

The Flash finds and confronts the Reverse Flash in a fight for his life and the life of Iris West!  Reverse Flash has been killing everyone connected to the Speed Force for reasons that are finally (well, partially) revealed this issue!  Can Barry stop a villain who is his exact opposite and manage to save the girl at the same time?  It may be too much, even for the World's Fastest Man!

Another amazing issue this month, as per usual!  Dynamic artwork and fascinating storytelling from Francis Manapul and Brian BuccellatoThe Flash is just a consistently great comic!

Annd once again that's it!  Actually, I'll give an honorable mention this week to Talon #11 - probably the best issue yet as Calvin "Talon" Rose fights Bane and his army of mercenaries on his island prison home...

Dont' forget that September is Villain's Month in the DCU!!  That means instead of the regular comics we'll be looking at titles featuring major super villains!  Tomorrow's New Comic Book day will see the release of Forever Evil #1 (of 7) and villain books featuring The Joker, Cyborg Superman, Darkseid, Bizarro, Deadshot and more!!

If you need to kill some time until then, check out this week's Stryder's Dementia, wherein I compare my life to that of a wizard!  Not that much different!

Alright have a good one everybody!  Back to school and all that...enjoy!  Peace!
