Thursday Threesome: Favourite K-Pop Songs of 2013 (so far)

I do love me a bit of K-Pop. The ultra-cute boy & girl bands, the crazily in-sync dance moves, and the sickly sweet pop beats make me ultra nostalgic for the glory days of Nsync, the Backstreet Boys and Five. Lucky I have a good reason for liking it, otherwise watching a whole bunch of teenagers dance around would just be creepy, amirite?? Heheheheh. Heh. Ehhhh...

There's been some quality pop choonz out of Korea already this year, so join me under the cut for a couple of my favourites. And no, don't worry, there's definitely no Psy.

Growl - EXO

On my recent trip to Singapore, this song was stuck in my head for three days straight. It hadn't been out very long, so I couldn't remember what it was called or who it was by, and there's nothing more frustrating than singing along to a song in your head when you only know the tune and not the words. I finally managed to get it out of my brain...only to walk past a shop where it was playing and have the whole process start over again. ARGH. Maybe it's some kind of musical Stockholm Syndrome, but this has really really grown on me, and the filmclip is great. I'm sure there's some clever cuts in there somewhere, but it's certainly meant to look like a one-shot video, and that's COOL.

I Got a Boy - Girls Generation

I suspect 'I like this song because Girls Generation are cute as shit' isn't going to cut it, huh? While I DO think Girls Generation are cute as shit, the real hook for me here is the breakdown in the middle. And their Disney version of 'street thug' styling. Awww, lookit you gangstas there!

Trap - Henry

Hey look, it's that guy from that band! And that other guy from that band! And that other other guy from a completely different band! This is another song that has been stuck in my head since I first heard it. Goddamn catchy Koreans and their pleasing melodies. *shakes fist* Be sure to check out the video for his English version of this song (Henry is actually Canadian, I think, so his English is good). Lyrics are kinda hilarious.
