Review: DC Mystery Minis from Funko!

Blind-box packaging is fun, right!? You never know what you’re going to get! Your favourite character? A rare chase? A live scorpion? An actual diamond? A punch in the face? It’s super fun! And now the crazy pranksters at Funko have further capitalised on our designer vinyl obsession with a cleverly calculated, new range of stylized DC Mystery Minis figures, focusing specifically on the Batman universe (both comic and film!). Batman! Vinyl! Stylized! Blind-boxed! BIFF! POW! ZOMG!

As you may have guessed, my tastes are wildly eclectic. I like the eerie realism of Hot Toys, but I also appreciate the complete other end of the spectrum. I like my Batman either gritty, spitting and shit-scary, or adorable like a puppy.

I’ve got six of these wee beggars and I’m going to scream about them like Christian Bale, and possibly drop you from a rooftop... after the jump!

Let's Open Some Domo DC Mystery Minis!

You know who Domo is, right? He's that brown, loaf-like Japanese monster with the perpetual expression of extreme shock! And now ultra prolific collectibles company, Funko, purveyors of Pop Vinyl and Wacky Wobblers has come to the epic conclusion that, "You know what, we should combine that weird Domo thing with DC's iconic line of superheroes and watch the profits roll in. I'll start clearing some space in the vault." And hence the blind-packaged Domo DC Mystery Minis 2.5" vinyl figures are born...

As is the case with all blind-boxed collectibles you just never know what you're going to get. I have THREE of them in hand, so let's open up these unfeasible hybrid monstrosities... after the jump!

FP Gift Guides: Christmas is Coming

Ah December. The month where work is winding down for the year, but stress levels are rising as you battle shopping centre crowds trying to find the perfect gift for all your ridiculously hard to buy for friends and family. Seeing as I have 90% of my Christmas shopping already done (not gloating, just stating a fact), I thought I'd share a few of the gems I found while trawling the internets on my very own Christmas quest.

Today, to coincide with the fact Aussie retailer Popcultcha is offering 20% off all of their Game of Thrones stock for 24 hours, we'll be perusing the wares of Westeros and seeing what we come up with. How about a 14" replica of the Iron Throne to start us off?

AUD$279.99 from Popcultcha

Review: Boba Fett Blox!

Some of my favourite items in my Star Wars collection are the oddities - the twisted, bizarre, bootleg, or super-deformed versions of our favourite characters from a galaxy far away. And why not shake it up a little bit? Visual artists frequently create their own stylised interpretations of  Luke, Han, Chewie and the gang, so why not carry that aesthetic across to toys? We've already had decades of screen accurate characters, so I welcome any product that tries something different.

We've already taken a look at Funko's Pop Vinyl bobblehead figures but they also have released a range of larger, wafer-thin, stylised vinyl figures called Blox. Thanks to our very own Jacinta, I now own Boba Fett. Check him out...

This may almost be a case of what-you-see-is-what-you-get but join me after the jump and we'll break him out and show a few more images...
