Stryder's Favourite Comics - 3/21/2012 PART I

Tons of my favourite comics came out on the 21st...so many that I'm doing a double-post again!  Whoa!

Okay, so that's not exactly Earth-shaking.  You know what is?  Batman!  Let's get right to it:

Batman #7 - Last month, Batman managed to barely escape the Court of Owls, who came as close as anyone ever has to murdering him - they didn't bother to chase him, he was all ready dead.  If you haven't been keeping up SHAME on YOU!  This title is incredible!  Anyway, this issue, the first thing we see is Batman being resuscitated with a car battery by a young, pierced woman named Harper.  They obviously have a history together, as Bruce seems angry to see her and yells at her to leave him alone.

After flipping through the first 7 issues of Batman in vain, I turned to Google to refresh my memory and found this quote from series writer Scott Snyder:

"Harper Row is her name and she's a character I've been thinking about for some time. I don't want to give too much away, but you'll be seeing more of her in Gotham soon - she has an important role to play in upcoming stories."

So no, despite the context, you HAVEN'T seen her before and you're NOT crazy.  It's her first appearance.  Phew.

Anyway Batman stumbles back to the batcave and gives us all a chance to catch our breath and figure out what the heck is going on!  A few mysteries regarding the Court of Owls and the Talon in particular are revealed.  Things start to make more sense, whilst simultaneously looking much, much worse.  Still, this is a very timely break because it looks like all hell's about to break loose for the Dark Knight and all of his companions.  Next month:  The Talons Strike!

Of COURSE there's MORE after the JUMP!!!

Nightwing #7 - Nightwing has finally solved the mystery of Haly's circus and why everyone's out to get him!  Now can he save the thousands of people about to burn to death under the big top because of it?

In a shocking turn of events, the story that has been haunting poor Dick Grayson since Nightwing #1 is directly tied into the story that has been haunting poor Bruce Wayne since Batman #1!!!  Those writers at DC must talk to each other, because this is all tied into those pesky OWLS again.  Just how far does the reach of the Court of Owls go?  I don't know, but now that I know they're involved, I'm suddenly FAR more interested...this story just became IMPORTANT!

Catwoman #7 - Catwoman is trying to lie low and get her act together after nearly dying several times over the last few months.  Sadly, it's not really in her character, despite new supporting character Gwen trying hard to lecture her into submission.   Luckily for Selina, luck is on her side!  Or maybe she just has all those lives that cats are supposed to get...

Introducing a new character this month!  He goes by the rather uninventive name Spark and has some pretty interesting looking electrical powers.  Now we just need to know who he is, what he wants and in particular, what does he want with Catwoman?

Birds of Prey #7 - Black Canary is worried....this team's got no core, no moral center to guide it through the rough patches.  They might not even be able to consider themselves the heroes!

Well, she's not getting any reassurance this month.  The team's gone all haywire under the manipulations of villain "Choke" who doesn't seem to be having a hard time turning them against one another.  It doesn't hurt when they've been keeping an eye out for betrayal all along anyway.  It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here.  Poison Ivy in particular does NOT seem all that happy...

Oh one thing of interest...Black Canary finally used her power!  I wasn't even sure if she COULD in the new 52...she never has yet!  I guess sound waves that incapacitate entire rooms aren't that conducive to teamwork...

So that's it for Part 1!!  Stay tuned as I get to Supergirl, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Wonder Woman and JUSTICE LEAGUE in a day or two!!!

In the meantime, go check out Stryder's Dementia for a little Starfire and philosophy!  New every week!
