Toy Fair 2013: Playmobil Pandemic!

Now our pal, Travis Denman, must have seen my Playmobil Advent Calendar coverage from last year because while he was on his recent New York Toy Fair trip he generously snapped me pictures not only of two brand new advent calendars for 2013 (which I'll show at the end), but also all sorts of other crazy Playmobil stuff. Thanks, Trav and Vinylmation Kingdom!

Now, I'm not for a moment suggesting that this hold much interest for the adult collector, but if you have kids then you'd be crazy not to delve into the eclectic, vivid plastic worlds that Playmobil creates. What child wouldn't enjoy the hell out of this insanely fun dinosaur park? Some kind of sissy child, probably. Check this out!

Of course this set up consists of multiple sets but those are some fantastically designed, colourful dinosaurs for your kids to bash each other over the head with. Not to mention that rocking volcano. I need to start picking up some of this stuff as gifts. I can think of at least one new Dad who I know that needs a pink anklyosaurus painfully buried in his bare foot first thing in the morning. I can make that happen, bro!

Join me after the jump for some cool crap plus those new calendars....

But first a closer look at the mighty T-Rex, dripping with the blood of his conquered enemies...

Tiny arms should never hinder your aspirations to be king! Just ask Peter Dinklage.

Now a total change of pace. I can think of at least one fellow Fruitless Pursuits contributor who might get excited about this totally manufactured Playmobil boy band...

Look at the hair and clothes on those guys! The drummer is wearing a tiger skin vest! What do you think PMMC stands for? I think it's Pussy Magnet Mega Corporation. Makes sense right?

Playmobil really are leaving no stone unturned with their latest offerings. Next they venture to the bottom of the deadly, remorseless ocean where one man battles nature in his submersible fish-puncher...

Look at those crazy robot arms at the front, perfect for pinching fish or squeezing the wrists of octopi. Get that thing in the bath and tear shit up!

Forget Mel Gibson - Playmobil really know what women want...

Girls inexplicably love horses and I bet that every girl out there wants that set. It's a license to print money. You nailed it, Playmobil. NEEEEIGH.

Boys, on the other hand, like colonisation and racially motivated violence...

I had a friend in highschool whose family had a huge Playmobil western fort set up on a massive diorama table (I think it might have been a ping pong table). It had a town and a desert and was even bigger than the one pictured here. Where's his parade?

And here are some smaller sets. Expand the picture if you like and take a good, long look...

All the bases are covered here. There's everything from a clown, an archer (I love archers) to pirates and pizza makers. All in unique, smaller, affordable sets. Create your own stories. Stories about pirates and pizza making.

Also Playmobil have two new waves of blind-packaged mystery figures. These are split into a girl wave and a boy wave. Here are the boys...

Nothing too exciting here. Nice viking/spaceman/ninja combo but otherwise I think this round is a little bland.

And here are the lovely Playmobil ladies...

That's more like it. These women are actually kind of hot. Especially digging the pink hair and the archer. I'd ask both these girls out on a date.

Okay and finally the moment you've been patiently waiting for. Here are the new calendars. As you may recall each calendar also includes a fold-out cardboard diorama. This first one is some sort of museum heist!...

A lot of great stuff there from the burglar's grappling hook, the Egyptian bust, and the cop's crazy large scale ATV. This could be a winner right here. I like what I see.

Or the softer option is this farm set...

Which, to be fair, looks like good value for money. There's three human figures there plus a bunch of animals and scenery pieces. That'll make someone happy.

Based on the huge feedback we got from the calendar last year, I'll pick another one this year but I'm not sure which. The store I go to usually has around ten to choose from, and there's a dinosaur/archeologist one out there too. Do you have a preference? Tell me which one we should go for and I'll keep an eye out!

Keep up the good work, Playmobil!
