The Book Was Better Episode 171: Back to the Future Part III (with guest host Zach!)
This week we go back in time and finish off a BWB trilogy when we read the (confusing) novelization of Back to the Future Part III. Joining me is fellow cowboy Zach as we figure out a whole lot of unsolved mysteries, involving hills/valleys, the true McFly family tree, alternate histories and a whole lot of gubbins!

First Look at Official LEGO Back to the Future Set!
Well this is a nice surprise! Those plucky Danish maniacs at LEGO have unveiled the first official image of the very soon to be released Back to the Future time travelling Delorean. "WHHAAAA?" you say, rubbing your bleary eyes in disbelief! It's true! This one of exclusive is the result of a successful campaign on the Lego Cuusoo site where imaginative upstarts like you and I are able to submit their outlandish ideas for sets and, if they garner at least 10,000 votes, LEGO will step in and review the concept, pushing those lucky through into production. And thanks to an outpouring of fan support, the BTTF set is now a reality. Check it out...

Complete with Marty and Doc, the Delorean will apparently have enough pieces to convert it into all three versions from the trilogy of films. Hopefully there'll be some minifig customisation options too (future Doc?) but that might be asking for a little too much. Love that Flux Capacitor tile!
And crazier still, it will be going on sale this Thursday 18th July, presumably online through the link on the Cuusoo site. This is a one time only deal so make sure you grab it. I've started constantly refreshing already. "What' happens to us in the future? Do we become assholes or something?" Probably! But at least you can own a Lego Delorean!

The Book Was Better Podcast Episode 37: Back to the Future Part II (with Guest Host Laura, my Little Sister!)

The Book Was Better is the podcast where we read and tear into the hastily written book of the film!
This week you've got to come back with me. Back where, you ask? Back to a second helping of sassy teen Marty McFly as we read the far weaker tie-in novelisation of Back to the Future Part II!
Marty is constantly jumping forwards or backwards fifteen years so why not explore this with my special guest host Laura, my little sister, who just happens to be (nearly) fifteen years younger than I am! We're going to attempt to bridge the generation gap and see if 1989's BTTF 2 still holds up 24 years later, for someone 14 years younger. And is the 2015 portrayed in this novel all it's cracked up to be? There's only one way to be sure...
Download it right now from the official site or subscribe to us on iTunes so we can brag to strangers!

How We Met Christopher Lloyd at Supanova and Awesome Things Happened!
It should be little surprise that the biggest draw at this past weekend’s Supanova was pop culture icon Christopher Lloyd. Fans of Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Addams Family, Taxi, Star Trek III, and Piranha 3DD, formed massive lines for their chance to spend a few memorable moments with a legend. Jacinta and I were a little more lazy, choosing instead to avoid the crowds, but on late Sunday afternoon the line finally parted and a perfect opportunity presented itself! There was Christopher. There was us. It was meant to be.
But how to make the best of this opportunity?

Sponsor News: Let's Discuss This Week's Toy and Collectibles Highlights!
Our friends at Big Bad Toy Store have released a slew of new pre-orders and I am going to share and comment on everything that caught my seasoned eye as a professional Collectorian. ( I have a degree in the Acquiring and Displaying of Awesome Unessentials). Like this spoilerish pair of figures from Sir Ridley Scott's stomach-splitting Prometheus:

What!? I always assumed they were called Space Jockeys because they raced horses, wore jockey shorts, and constantly jockeyed for our attention!
This is actually a set of two separate figures as opposed to an elaborate piece of armour. Made by NECA, both are around 8.5 inches tall and BBTS has them listed right here for $34.99. Also interesting to note that this pair of Engineers are identified as "Series 01" so maybe we'll get a fass-bending David the Uneasily Polite Android later on.
To see what else caught my keen Collectorian eye... join me after the jump!

Tom Wilson Answers All Of Your Back To The Future Questions
I guess if you starred in one of the biggest trilogies of all time, you would get sick of answering the same old questions over and over. But Tom Wilson, who many only know as the big BTTF bully Biff Tannen, is definitely a smart and very funny guy. Instead of answering those questions, he put together a FAQ card with all of the answers.
And if you haven't seen it already, here is one of my favorite videos of all time. Tom Wilson performing "The Question Song", which is basically the above card in song format.
As much as I love Back To The Future.. watching this always makes me think back to Freaks and Geeks. Tom Wilson was perfect as Coach Fredericks.

Most Memorable Presents: VHS MEGA-HAUL!
In the very early 1990's my Grandmother bought myself and my two brothers a TON of VHS tapes for Christmas. At the time, some of these movies weren't that easy to come across, but my Grandmother worked at the Pennsauken Mart... which was almost like an indoor flea market made up of full-time shops. Kind of like the dirt mall in Mallrats.
The Mart was the best. You could get pizza, soft pretzels, swords, guitars, belt buckles, action figures, magazines, lottery tickets, airbrushed artwork, lingerie, toy robots and pretty much everything else that is awesome. There was also a huge video store that had very movie ever (and then more movies).
My Grandmother tripled our whole VHS collection on that Christmas day. It's safe to say that this gift defined most of my youth.

One Man Multi-Track Dub of Back to the Future Skateboard Chase!
It's late here, BUT, Back to the Future is one of my favourite series of movies, the skateboard chase in Back to the Future is one of my favourite scenes, and the Back to the Future theme is one of my favourites of all time! So to hear the talented Matt Mulholland re-dub an entire scene - music, sound effects, dialogue and all - using only his own voice, makes me happier than I've ever been! IN MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE! Don't miss this:

Get your hands on some McFly kicks
As we swiftly approach the year 2015, the setting for the bitchin' Back to the Future II, it's starting to become painfully obvious that science is simply not delivering on the promises we were made by Robert Zemeckis. I see no hoverboards. I see no one-size-fits-all jackets. I see no 3D movie promotions where I feel in danger of being eaten by a shark. I WANT TO FEEL LIKE I'M GOING TO BE EATEN BY A SHARK, SCIENCE!
Luckily, the good people at Nike have come to our rescue.

Doc Emmet L. Brown is Screwing Around in Argentina.
Back to the Future's Doc Emmet L. Brown is apparently still very active and crashing his tricked-out Delorean into foreign electronics stores. For science! And probably a few lulz!
Earlier this year, I was gravely disappointed when Christopher Lloyd announced an eleventh hour cancellation of his scheduled appearances at Australia's biggest pop-culture convention Supanova. Apparently he was at the airport ready to leave when something urgent popped up. Looks like Marty's kids must have been being assholes again and the whole mess wound up in Argentina. At least now we know, and here's the proof:
Via Nerd Bastards who have a behind-the-scenes clip as well.
