Review: Hot Toys Agent Phil Coulson 1/6th Scale Collectible Figure!

So this is the one I was convinced I was going to skip. Iron Man? Yes! Thor? Sure! Black Widow? Absolutely? But I don’t need S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent, Phil Coulson, right? That’s just a mature dude in a suit! But then... it does look like a pretty cool figure... And what if the upcoming Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series is amazing? Because you might think he died, but Coulson apparently lives! And if I don’t get him and later regret it, he will cost a bazillion dollars on ebay... ARRARARRRGRARRGH!!!

So I got him, and I don’t regret it for a moment. There’s something so affable and instantly likeable about Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson character that I can’t help but smile every time I look at that mug. And, now in my mid thirties, I’m kind of glad that an older guy in a suit, with zero powers, can be a hero too. As strange as it may seem to an outsider, Coulson has a rabid fan base, and now I too have been swept up by the hype.

To follow up on Jacinta's previous post, Hot Toy's 1/6th scale Agent Phil Coulson figure is now available for pre-order from our friends at Sideshow Collectibles. For the record he has five sets of extra hands, the Destroyer gun, a pistol, sunglasses, headset, watch, walkie talkie, mobile phone, SHIELD folder, staff card and a stack of Captain America trading cards. Are you going to get some Son of Coul in your life? I was not, but now I am sorely tempted... especially if the TV show is great!

Hot Toys Coulson!

If YOU were the adult collectible guru company Hot Toys and you wanted to release the first images of a fairly niche Avengers-universe character to the audience who (fairly literally) resurrected him, how would you  do it?

YES, HOT TOYS. THAT IS EXACTLY HOW YOU DO IT!

COULSON LIVES!

No longer just a hopeful internet catchphrase, it has been confirmed at NYCC that Agent Phil Coulson does in fact live. We last saw our favourite dry-witted SHIELD buddy on the wrong end of a Loki shish kebab in The Avengers, and while it all looked pretty final (he was checking OUT, you guys!) Joss Whedon has confirmed that not only is Coulson going to be in the upcoming tv spinoff, he is (and I quote) "...headlining the S.H.I.E.L.D show and always was."

SQUEE.

I'm interested to know if 'always' really was 'always' or just 'since the internet went batshit crazy for Coulson'. The suggestion is at this stage that the tv show will run alongside the Marvel movie universe, which hopefully will leave the door open to cameos from the movie cast. Cause the last time Jeremy Renner was in a Joss Whedon show it just worked out SO well...

*purges brain* The early 00's were tough on us all. No word yet on WHEN we'll get to treat ourselves to a weekly dose of Coulson, but with rumours circulating that production would be getting underway 'immediately', we're holding out hope that there might even be a pilot before the next Marvel 'Verse movie. Stay tuned for news as it comes to light, and probably a few more barely contextually appropriate pictures of Jeremy Renner.

Raiding the Avengers Wardrobe

You may remember Luke's post from a while ago about his Black Widow costume collector cards, featuring little snippets of Scarlett Johansson's costumes from Iron Man 2 and The Avengers (probably the bits that touched her butt, but I guess we'll never truly know). I'm sure that you, like me, thought 'Oh, Luke. That's so weird. Why would you want to own something that probably touched ScarJo's butt? Stop being weird Luke. You weirdo'.

As I am a curious beast, I thought I'd have a little look on eBay to see what other costume parts were available (not that I'd buy any of course, because as we've already established, that's WEIRD). It was less than five minutes before I was hitting Buy It Now like a crazy fangirl. A crazy WEIRD fangirl.

I mean, how did I ever live without a card featuring a picture of Jeremy Renner awkwardly grimacing and containing a piece of Hawkeye's uniform? I DON'T KNOW. Sadly, this was the first of many as I quickly spiralled out of control, caught in a memorabilia-buying frenzy. Sigh. Join me after the cut for the rest of my Hall of Shame.
