A Johnnie Walker add directed by Shojiro Nishimi (Tekken Kinkreet designer/animation director, and Batman Gotham Knight short "Have I Got a Story For You") featuring art by Shinji Kimura (he did the wonderful backgrounds on those above films)

This is another short by Shojiro Nishimi that's also quite brilliant

KIDS ON THE SLOPE

Shinichiro Watanabe the director of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champaloo is back with his new series KIDS ON THE SLOPE (SAKAMICHI NO APOLLON). It also reunites him with Cowboy Bebop composer Yoko Kanno.

"Nishimi Kaoru has moved from city to city and school to school because of his father's job. So the first day at his new school was just routine for him. Being intellectual and the new transfer student, he has always been seen as an outcast and all Kaoru had to do was bare it until the next time he moved. But things were slightly different this time. First, he started to get close to the class president, Mukae Ritsuko, and, secondly, unlikely as it seemed, grew closer to Kawabuchi Sentaro. Sentaro was infamous for getting into fights, skipping class and was an overall bad boy. Strangely enough, the three of them find common ground in music, namely jazz, and Kaoru finds himself actually enjoying the new town."

Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki

A new film from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time / Summer Wars team of director Mamoru Hosoda, script writer Satoko Okudera and character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto

"Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki" (The Wolf Children Rain and Snow)

No real synopsis exists (that I could google haha) at the moment. I'll update when I find out a little bit more about this film. The team behind this are pretty dam good.

Sadamoto the character designer is best know for his character design work on Neon Genesis Evangelion and the third "rebuild Evagelion" film (that are really worth checking out) will be out later this year as well

Another anime

So I've just stated watching 'Another' and the first episode was pretty good. Yeah it's 'another' anime set in a school but one thing they've done really well is captured just an oddness to the town and the people.

I have a review after the jump

A letter to Momo

It's been 11 years but we finally have a new film by the director of "Jin-Roh" Hiroyuki Okiura

This is what is going on since this trailer is unsubbed or dubbed:

"Momo is a shy and imaginative 13-year-old girl who is suffering because of her father's recent death and the resultant extreme changes in her life. From the big city of Tokyo, Momo's family moves to her mother's childhood home, a remote island named Shio. Momo does not adapt well to her new surroundings. Her father left her an unfinished letter containing only two words, "Dear Momo". As she tries to make sense of these two words and guess what her father was trying to tell her, some strange incidents occur on the island, which is otherwise tranquil. People's orchards are ransacked by an unknown person, and some of their prized belongings start to go missing. Momo also starts to hear strange sounds coming from the attic in her house

Momo's mother refuses to believe Momo about the strange sounds from the attic, so Momo herself embarks on an adventure to discover the source of these disturbances. During her investigations, Momo meets up with Kawa, Mame and leader Iwa, a group of imps, each of which have a different personality. In addition, Momo discovers that the mysterious two-word letter from her father is connected to all the strange occurrences, and to her arrival at Shio"

Para Para Manga

I just found out that Para Para Manga is what they call Flip books in Japan.

Here's a beaut one by Tatsuyuki Tanaka.

He was the animator assigned to Tetsuo’s mutation scene at the end of Akira

This next one is animated by Shinya Ohira who is also an Akira vet, he also did the chase scene in the Animatrix short "Kid story"

If you want to nerd up on your Japanese animator knowledge here's a good place to start.

Thanks to Catsuka (the wonderful animation news site) and Halcyon Realms (a pretty great blog and the guy has a good bookstore that I have spent a bit of money at)

Halloween Costume Ideas - Creepy Anime Makeup

Halloween is just around the corner, so its time to get ready. What better way than to learn how to do up your make up like an anime character and creep everyone the hell out

Its even creepier when her eyes finally surface.
