Did You Know There Is A Playmobil Minifigures Series 1?

I can only assume that Playmobil has seen the massive success of the Lego minifigure line, and decided to launch their own. If they didn't, then this would be a massive coincidence, but I will continue to assume.

I first saw these a week ago and passed on them because I've been tinkering with the idea of selling all of my Playmobil. I don't really want to, but it's an expensive and bulky collection. But a few days ago I gave in and bought 3 of the blind packaged figures.

Series 1 is pretty huge. There are 12 blue packs consisting of male figures, and 12 pink packs consisting of female figures. They retail for $2.99-$3.99 each. If you can get them somewhere and save that $1, it really helps. But not at the Cherry Hill, NJ Toys R' Us :(

So which ones did I get?
I bought three packs. 2 blue and 1 pink.

The first one i opened was one that I really wanted.. the Boxer! Unfortunately he came with 2 of the same boxing glove and I will be forever sad.

Watch out for his special move, the Double Right Hook!

Then we opened the pink one, and it was the one my daughter wanted. The Mermaid. I didn't open or photograph the seashells that she came with. There was about a dozen of them and they're super tiny. Also, I should mention that you actually assemble the figures. I don't know if I've ever done that with Playmobil figures before.

The last figure was the Mummy. I kind of wanted this one too.

Thoughts?

I'm a sucker for blind packaging, and a big fan of Playmobil, so of course I want more right now. But these are really well done. Playmobil went all out with the accessories and additional paint, making some really cool characters to add to your displays. These don't have the super-cool factor that the Lego minifigures have, but it's just the first series. I hope they're successful and they continue to release more lines, and start to take more chances.

Here is the whole series.

  1. I don't think there's any I would be disappointed about getting in the male ones.

  2. I feel the same way. Male #10 would probably be my least favorite, but I would pretend that trophy was for a donut eating contest, and be pretty happy.

There are a few really cool female ones that I want too (#4, 6 and 10)

I went back tonight and bought two more. They only had a few, so I cheated and felt up all of the packs. I knew that I was getting male #11 (it's super cool) and I was pretty sure that I knew the female one was well. We got female #12, which has a partially flocked dress.

    I need more!

  3. Those all look fantastic.

I love the playmobil figures, but all the vehicles and things can leave me a little cold. It's not that it's not cute and well designed, but I always compare them to lego sets. Playmobil is just very closed ended.

  5. That Dudez series is very cool. I have no need for these, of course, which is why I want them immediately. I am seduced by blind packaging. I keep thinking that I'll get something crazy awesome that no one has ever seen before like a dragon egg or something!
