Stryder's Favourite Comics - Release Date 2/29/2012

So we've come to the end of our look back at the last 6 months of the DC New 52!  However, they did save the best for last...

Justice League #6 - "Every civilization throughout history has had higher beings they aspire to..."  What can I say about the Justice League that hasn't already been said?  Earth's Greatest Super-Heroes defend against a very literal hell-on-earth as Darkseid continues his quest for universal domination all over our planet!

This issue marks the final chapter of the story of the initial formation of the League!  There are a lot of great things about this issue...more than one big full-page spread that took my breath away, including one of Superman in the clutches of Darkseid's henchmen that literally made me gasp the first time I saw it.  Talk about being emotionally invested!  My only complaint is that this story seems too short!  Luckily, Justice League #7 is only a month away!

Oh there's a separate, very short story in the back of JL #6 that takes us back to the beginning of the New 52 and names the mysterious hooded woman who started this whole thing off.  Her name is Pandora, and she has an agenda...one involving the Justice League.  Not everyone in the universe is on board.  What will happen?  I can't wait to find out...

Overall Run:

Pros:
-Brilliant artwork, big and detailed, colourful and amazing!
-Fascinating story, particularly due to the interaction between these amazing, iconic characters!
-Every hero has a part to play and every part is important.

Cons:
-Too Short!  I want more!

Score: 5 out of 5 gods among us!!!  This story is a great example of what comics should be!  If you only buy one a month...

Some final thoughts and a very personal thank-you after the jump!!

So now that the DC New 52 Universe is 6 months old, officially, I wanted to take a moment to just sit back and think about what's happened.  I know some people have been disappointed by the DC reboot, some wishing it had never occurred while others argue that it didn't go far enough.  I'm obviously not one of these people, for two simple reasons.

First, DC Comics and comic books in general have been a part of my life, off and on, since I was a small child.  In all that time I've seen nothing BUT change.  Whether it's a new creative team, a new art direction, a new company direction, or just to boost flagging sales on a single title, these characters have constantly evolved to stay relevant and modern while retaining the elements that made them so iconic in the first place.  The New 52, to me, was just one more evolution.  One that made a great deal of sense!

Starting with Flashpoint, DC has revolutionized their entire universe, tweaking things just enough to keep the good and throw out the bad.  Breathe new life into everyone and everything!  I know change is hard, but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing.  Change is all we have here on Earth....either we evolve or we become obsolete.  I for one am glad that DC has evolved!  Their characters have really come back to life in the last 6 months and it`s been great to see!

Secondly, on a more personal note, the DC new 52 came out at a most serendipitous time for me!  20 years ago, I slowly started giving up comic books.  I had recently turned 15 and started spending my money on other things.  One of those other things became cigarettes.  I developed a habit that lasted nearly 20 years and eventually cost too much for me to afford both smokes and comics.  Comics went away.

This August I realized that I had stupidly smoked for nearly 20 years and that I needed to quit.  I also heard about the DC Universe rebooting their books and starting at #1 on every title!  I resolved that I would start collecting these new comics!  More than that, I resolved to fix my 20 year-old mistake and choose the better path.  For every week that I had a cigarette, I was not allowed to buy comics that came out that week.  EVER.  For every week that I did NOT smoke, I could buy whatever comics I wanted (you know, within my budget).

This Monday marks the 6 month anniversary of the last time I had a cigarette.  I am happy to say that I have bought my weekly comics EVERY WEEK since the New 52 arrived.  Thank-you DC Comics.  Along with providing me with continual entertainment and inspiration, you've also helped me and continue to help me not to smoke every single week!  I can't stress enough how important this has been to me!  I owe you one.

Limitless Undying Love freaks!  See ya next week when we start on the #7's!!!!
