Board Game Unboxing: Cars 2 Sorry! Sliders

Sorry! Sliders has become a Christmas tradition in our house, and this year I got the Cars 2 version, subtly titled "Disney Pixar Cars 2 Sorry! Sliders World Grand Prix Race Edition". Try to remember that one, kids!

The original Sorry! Sliders is kind of a mass market customizable shuffleboard game, but the Cars 2 edition is much more than just a re-theme. It's a completely different game, with a full customizable racetrack that feels very much like everyone's favorite... Pitch Car! The game is a little pricier than I realized ($20-$25) but hopefully mega-giant Hasbro will release some generic track packs so you can design more detailed courses without having to pay mega-bucks for the licensing and extra pieces.

Curious as to what's in the box? I have a bunch of pictures and thoughts after the jump.

It doesn't look like much at first.

Lots and lots of cardboard to punch out.

Hire a child to help. :)

I used to like punching out sprues when I was a kid. It's not so much fun anymore.

Cheerleader, So and So, What's Her Face, and The Ugly One

The rails... these make the game pretty smooth and kid friendly. Adult friendly too, depending on your gaming group.

Markers and tokens.

Our completed racetrack! About 15 minutes from opening the box. Not too bad.

Interchangeable obstacles like the bumpers seen here definitely make the game more fun and more challenging.

You can gloat here at the top after winning. A nice touch. Also doubles as an obstacle when passing under.

Thoughts? It's basically Pitch Car lite. A pretty solid production though. My issues with other flicking games are the inconsistency from piece to piece, leaving gaps or bumps that your pieces will get hung up on. In Cars 2 Sorry! Sliders there's a simple locking mechanism on the tracks that prevents this from happening. The tokens are big and weighted, and the few obstacles that were included are a lot of fun. If you want Pitch Car but can't make the full investment, or you're playing with kids/adults that can't control their flicking.. this one might be for you. I just want to see more tracks available!
