Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar 2012, Day 18: Life is Fleeting!

And it’s the final week of the wild rollercoaster ride that is the Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar and I have had a force premonition that it is going to be a strong one! Maybe we’ll get a goddamn bantha, or a wampa, or a Sarlacc pit! Maybe it will be a draft of the script for Episode VII!? Maybe George Lucas has put a portion of his four billion dollars behind every single door!

Let’s cash in with Door #18... after the jump!

And its... a...

REBEL FLEET TROOPER!

Let’s face it, just about any minifig would be a win at this stage - I have infinite love for all breeds of minifigure - and the fact that this guy is from the very first, original Star Wars film makes him all the better! The rebel fleet troopers are the poor saps who were on Princess Leia’s ship when Vader and the stormtroopers busted in to steal back the Death Star plans. Stormtroopers may get a bad rap for being shitty shots but plenty of rebel fleet troopers got their asses knocked out in those scenes, dying in the corridors with gaping blast marks in their chests. True, stormtroopers lack peripheral vision but likewise its hard for a rebel fleet trooper to manoeuvre with a lampshade on his head. Infact let’s name this guy Lam P’Shade.

For some inexplicable reason Lego found it necessary again to include two spare visors. I guess the assumption is that if your adventurous child manages to shove one up each nostril you’ll still have one left over for display.

Could this mean that a Lego stormtrooper isn’t far away? I sure hope so because you can never own enough of those guys. They should be able to buy big boxes of them, like cereal.

In the ongoing competition between this calendar and the Playmobil Game of Thrones Advent Calendar BOTH were pretty badass today but I’m going to reward Lego for a classic trilogy minifigure. This cat is straight up old skool 1977 and he deserves our respect! Lego gets the point and we’re tied again!

  1. Oh the ups and downs! I'm glad we got some extra shades as a few minifigs helmats I have from when I was a kid are missing them. Wish this one could have the 2 positions like the hoth rebal. oh well still beats an unrecognisable mini ship any day!

  2. And just like that, Lego regains the respect of a 6 year old.
..."Aww yeah! The guys from Star Wars 1 (he doesn't understand prequels) that kept dying while Darth Vadar was choking the other guy!"

Tied up again, this is getting so good I'm going to check if Vegas has a line on this blog...
