Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar 2012, Day 20: Revenge of the Shite!

It's day of the ultimately alienating Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar and I'm sorry to inform you that the madness continues. Yesterday many of you flocked to the site to find the answer to what the hell Day 19 was, and I fear that, unless you're a hardcore collector, today is going to result in similar issues. Issues that need tissues. For your disappointed children's snot-smeared, rotund faces.

But don't worry, buddys, as always we have you covered. We know what's behind Door #20... after the jump!

So this morning you might have been confronted with this funny little micro vehicle...

Now this one I knew straight away, but having just re-watched its scene in the film I realised that you never really get a good look at it. Plus I didn't know it's proper name. What the hell am I blabbering about?

It is hacking, coughing, moustache-twirling robot buffon General Greivous' starfighter. His own one-man personal transport that is seen very briefly in Revenge of the Sith. This picture of Hasbro's action figure sized version probably shows it most clearly...

You can see the matching downward fin on the back behind the cockpit and even the way in which Lego tried in vain to create the brown and yellow striped pattern with a couple of tiny blocks.

The scene in question is when Obi Wan Kenobi kills Grievous on the Utupau landing platform. This is the ship that he was trying to get to when he escaped on the wheel-bike and you can see it in the background of a couple of quick shots. He even punches it at one point, which is probably what you felt like doing this morning.

So I knew it was General Grievous' starfighter but I didn't know that it's name is Soulless One. A weird name considering that I don't think that the notion of a "soul" is ever discussed in Star Wars, and they don't even really have a clue about force ghosts until Yoda spins some bullshit about it at the end of this movie. Regardless we can probably all agree that this is a relatively soulless gift designed by the soulless Danes at Lego. (Just kidding, Denmark. Merry Christmas!)

So that's another bad run, and Lego only has FOUR more days to make up for it! Can Christmas be saved? OR WILL DENMARK CAUSE IT TO BE CANCELLED? (Just kidding, Denmark. We love you).

In the ongoing competition between this calendar and the Game of Thrones inspired Playmobil calendar, today Playmobil just gave Lego the biggest beating ever seen. Playmobil scores the point by a MASSIVE margin after giving us a gift that needs to be seen to be believed. No contest! Playmobil is getting comfortably in the lead... Time for Lego to unleash its big guns.

Playmobil Game of Thrones Advent Calendar: 11.
Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar: 9.

  5. Its just getting worse and worse... what was with that hoth trick where we though they had smartened up and moved on?! So disapointing. And the worst part is, lime the first guy said, you can see what your getting on the box! I saw the one playmobile calendar at chapters and it had a slip cover that said what was in it that the parents (or old childish people in my case) could throw out so it would be a treat.

  7. Like a dagger, Lego! Right through my heart. Or better yet, like Mad-Gary's battle axe. Tomorrow better be a fully-functional machine that can actually freeze someone in carbonite.
"Soulless One" huh? Cool. So there's that...
