Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar 2012, Day 9: Veering Back on Course!

Okay you guys, I have a super strong feeling that today's Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar is actually going to be all right! Perhaps it will even usher in a new, more optimistic era for our much maligned, largely Phantom Menace themed calendar! Maybe even some of the parents out there will even actually know what this one is!

To find out what lies within the snowy peaks of Door #9... join me after the jump!

And it's...

Well I think it's General Veers from best-movie-ever The Empire Strikes Back! And if it's not Veers himself then it's certainly some sort of similarly dressed AT-AT driver/commander.

But, as always, I'll do the research so that you don't have to. Here's Veers in the film, blissfully unaware of his imminent death...

Here's some fun trivia for you. Veers is played by Julian Glover who is also grail-hunting badass Donovan in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and, more recently, croaky old coffin-dodger Pycelle in Game of Thrones. If you're a parent you may wish to share that information with your kids this morning and watch their little faces glaze over in non-comprehension.

Now look at the insignia on his chest armour. That's four red thingies above four blue thingies. Whereas our Lego dood today has only three. But then again Veers didn't have inhuman claws instead of hands or a giant stud on his head either. Let's put it down to artistic license.

A nice touch is that you can swivel his face around so that the goggles/visor are removed...

He certainly looks pissed off enough to be General Veers. I reckon it HAS to be him. I know why he's so pissed off too...

He's just seen the shitty gift we got on Day #5.

Still! This is one of the good ones!

Meanwhile, the competition between this calendar and the Playmobil Game of Thrones Advent Calendar continues. And I'm sorry to say that although Lego gave us one of our best gifts so far today, I'm STILL going to give the point to Playmobil because their gift today was AMAZING.

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar: 3.
Playmobil Game of Thrones Advent Calendar: 6.

  1. Great, I should have read this post earlier. I told my son it was the Death Squad Commander, and I even thought I had a chance to shatter your brilliance and prove you wrong, but the vest gives it away. Nice work again Luke.
