Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar 2012, Day 5: A Block of Brown!

Day #5 of the Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar and everything we thought we knew comes crumbling down. I was 100% convinced that we would be treated to a new minifig today but instead we get an awkward bit of, “WTF is this thing?” that almost rivals Day #1’s gungan sub.

If you’re a confused parent trying to muster up an explanation to your disappointed child then relax - I’ve got you covered.

I’ll tell you exactly what’s behind Door #5... after the jump!

Feast your eyes on this...

I’ll admit my moment of head-scratching was brief this time but it’s still a pretty terrible gift. If you haven’t figured it out yet, this vague brown blob is intended to be one of the MTT (Multi Troop Transport) tanks from The Phantom Menace. You know, this monstrous, brown behemoth filled with racks of droids. Here it is in toy form...
Except even for a micro-sized vehicle this thing is super tiny compared to the others. Look at it next to the sub and the star destroyer... it’s a wee babby!

The MTT is facing the wrong way in this picture but honestly, who the hell is going to know?
Lego, this thing is too small! I guess perhaps parents could use it to teach their children about lowered expectations and using your imagination.

So it looks like we’re going to have a very Phantom Menace Christmas. I guess that the fine folks at Lucasfilm grossly overestimated the interest people would have in the 3D re-release this year. “Hey you know that thing you all said you hated 13 years ago? Well I bet you won’t hate it nearly as much when you pay a premium to see it again IN 3D!! Huh? Hey? Anybody with me?” Sigh. (And I even went and saw it in 3D and defend it on occasion, but come on, Lego, mix it up!).

In our ongoing competition, the Playmobil “Game of Thrones” advent calendar absolutely destroys the Lego calendar today. Seriously, it’s not even close.
Playmobil Game of Thrones Advent Calendar: 4.
Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar: 1.

  1. I am so so disappointed with the Star Wars Advent calendar this year! It absolutely sux!

I mean WTF, this brown blob is quite possibly the worst thing I have ever seen from Lego. This is the kind of thing my 4 year old daughter puts together with the bits from a bigger set of lego she has destroyed.

Lego you should be bloody ashamed for the price this thing cost!!!!!!!!!

  2. Glad I got my kid the Lego City Advent Calendar this year... I thought stairs and a wall were lame, compared to the Star Wars set, I hit the Jackpot!

  3. The last day should just be a little instruction manual to build a decent Lego structure out of these weird mini-vehicles. A Christmas twist!

  4. Luke Milton, we love you. When my son took out the Jar-Jar he said, "Nobody likes Mee-sah." That's my boy. My work here's done. - Katie Goodman

  6. You saved me at 5:40 in the morning when my son ran downstairs and opened Day 5, I should take a picture of his sad and confused face and send it to Lego!

    1. This is becoming so wide-spread that I think we should start a support group!

    1. It is kind of sad because I think that Lego/Star Wars assumes that these prequel vehicles are far more iconic than they actually are. Even if they'd made this model twice the size it might have been more forgivable. But as it is it's barely anything at all!

  8. Luke, you seriously need to keep this going. I am getting my butt kicked every day by this set. However even if I know what it is (Jar-Jar) I still log in to see your comments. If I remember last year's, it started out pretty lame and then picked up...maybe there's a chance.
