Pre-Order Hot Toys Hulk 1/6th Scale Figure!

This is the big one, and also the last figure of the actual (super-powered) The Avengers line-up (although we do know there's at least a Coulsen and a Chitauri coming). Our dear friends at Sideshow have finally unleashed Hot Toys mighty 1/6th scale Hulk for pre-order!

The giant Hulk clocks in at 16.5 inches/42cm allowing him to appropriately tower above his team mates and that left many of us a little nervous about how much he would cost. Now we actually know I'm relieved to say that, relatively speaking, it's really not too bad. I remain all-in on The Avengers team and the releases will be staggered over the next six months or so to ease some of the pain.

You can reserve yours at Sideshow right now here: Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series Hulk Sixth Scale Figure - The Avengers

Pre-Order Hot Toys Jim Gordon and Avengers Hulk Maquette!

Our dear friends at Sideshow continue their noble quest to beat the crap out of your credit card with two new hard-to-resist items fresh out of their fun oven. Up for pre-order is an exclusive Hot Toys Lt. Jim Gordon S.W.A.T. suit version 1/6th scale collectible figure featuring an uncanny likeness of old man Gary Oldman in The Dark Knight...

And if that didn't get you frothing enough, here's a 2 feet plus Hulk maquette from The Avengers, kind of like the one they used on set except this one is wearing pants. This seems to be the definitive piece for Ruffalo-Hulk enthusiasts...

More images and commentary after the jump, but if you're already convinced you can pre-order Jim here: Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series Jim Gordon (SWAT Version) The Dark Knight - Hot Toys
and Hulk here: Marvel (R) Collectibles Hulk Maquette

New 10 Disc Marvel Blu-ray Set Feature The Avengers Plus a Glowing Tesseract!

I may occasionally question their plans for their comics, but there's no doubt that Marvel is currently doing a lot of great things with their movies. And on their own site they've just revealed the mouth-full that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled (10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector's Set) on Blu-ray, featuring Iron Man 1 & 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers. And they're all stored in Nick Fury's suitcase containing the blinding power of a light-up tesseract (that's "cosmic cube"for you laymen):

Oooh pretty, right? That tesseract will be handy for... well I guess you could kind of... it's a power source right? Or a portal? Or.... What exactly does a tesseract do? Nobody really knows. But it's super desirable. Also included are a bunch of Nick Fury's secret files which actually mostly consist of doodles, ticket stubs, and lists of celebrities he'd like to sleep with.

The truth is that this large suitcase will probably be stored clumsily against the shelving where you house all your regular Blu-Rays and guests will constantly point to it and say, "What the hell is that thing?" and your voice will tire from telling them. But I totally want one. It's available for pre-order on Amazon here, but no word yet on an Australian release as far as I can tell.

Join me after the jump to check out some of the art on those movie sleeves!

Review: The Avengers Squinkies! WTF is a Squinky?

What is a Squinky? Nobody knows! Science is baffled! But when I saw that there was a set of movie The Avengers themed Squinkies I knew that I must buy them and science be damned! Besides, I needed the oddball Black Widow to add to my rapidly expanding collection.

So I may not have too many answers on the true nature of science/nature/God-defying Squinkies (I can tell you that they are small, and squishy, but you can’t eat them as they are made of a substance yet uncategorised by man) but I will open them up and let you see them with your own skeptical eyes.

Flubber? I think perhaps they are made of Flubber. To unravel this mystery... join me after the jump!

Comic School Review: The Incredible Hulk #4 (1963) Damn Commies!

It's been a couple of weeks since you and I have tried to make sense of an old school classic Marvel comic, so I thought that maybe we could snuggle up inside The Incredible Hulk #4 from 1963, a classic Hulk issue split into two "feature-length" (lies) Hulk thrillers!

Of course, we don't want to exert ourselves, so we'll just focus on the second story, Mongu!! Gladiator From Space!, because I am dying to find out why Teen Brigade leader Rick Jones is squirming in Mongu's ape-like arms like a little bitch! Will Hulk save the day before young Rick is violated? And what do those damn Commie pigdogs have to do with all this?

It's written by Stan the Man Lee with art by Jack the King Kirby and I bought it for $1.99 on Comixology. You can too if you'd like to read along with me! Let's do just that... after the jump!

Review: The Avengers Minimates (Movie Style!)

Although the film has been out for over a month now, The Avengers merchandise is really just starting to hit its stride. With new stuff showing up all the time, and plenty more on the horizon, I succumbed to starting my very own tiny, blocky, malformed, noseless version of the team. No nose? Wait... then how does Hawkeye keep his sunglasses on?

Yes, I am of course talking about the movie Avengers Minimates two-packs, which are a relatively cheap way for you to "assemble":

To see what I thought of these... join me after the jump!

Comic School Review: The Incredible Hulk #1 (1962)

Let's continue our wild foray into the seminal comics of Marvel's youth by taking a long overdue look at  The Incredible Hulk #1 from 1962, the issue in which Stan Lee and Jack Kirby gave laborious, mucousy birth to their legendary monster! Thrill as one of their crowning achievements starts crowning and then pops his mighty misshapen head forever into our world!

Just look at this beautiful cover and remind yourself why Jack was king, and Stan was a jester...

I picked this one up from Comixology for a puny $1.99, and you should too if you'd like to read along!

Review: The Incredible Hulk Returns. A 1988 Live-Action "Movie" Where Hulk Fights Thor!

I never really watched the original Hulk TV series as a child. Firstly, because it was a whole lot of boring until the three minutes when Banner finally hulked out, and secondly because Lou Ferrigno’s hideous prosthetic head and cheap wig scared the ever living shit out of me.

And I certainly didn’t realise that they audaciously continued to make Hulk TV movies throughout the late eighties, and you could have humped me in a bucket when I was gifted this particular movie from 1988 that co-stars the golden-locked Thor! Yes, I'm talking about The Incredible Hulk Returns!

If you are equally delighted at the prospect of an incredibly cheap live-action bout between incredible monster and mighty god, then you’d better join me after the jump!

2 Toy Teases: Dunny 2012 and Hot Toys Hulk!

A small image of Kidrobot's 2012 Dunny series has leaked onto the net revealing the designer line-up and case ratios. You may have to squint hard to take in all the designs but it's a reasonable taste of what's to come. This image is from Vinyl Pulse who are well worth your time:
One of my favourite things about the 2011 Dunny (which led me to buy a whole case) was the huge number of uniquely sculpted pieces. It looks like 2012 will carry on that tradition. I'm particularly enamoured by that three-boobed design by Kronk, but unfortunately it looks to be a hard to track down chase.

And join me after the jump for a glimpse of the upcoming Hot Toys Avengers' Hulk!

Mega Buzz Lightyear and more Nerd Shenanigans by Dan Hipp!

Someone thankfully retweeted Dan Hipp's awesome mega Buzz Lightyear illustration a few days ago, and I immediately had to check out his website. Maybe the comic peeps here already know about him, but the last comic I bought for myself was Batman: A Death In The Family like 20 years ago.. so I was really excited to see his style and pop culture goodies.

Here's a selection of AWESOME illustrations that I found on his website, including Ackbar, bounty hunters, turtles, pizza, zombies and more.
