Metal Mondays - The birth of something wonderful

It's probably not going to be every Monday. I'm sporadic. But rest assured, when it happens, it will be magnificient.

I'm a metal enthusiast, and not even strictly in the musical sense. I love the aesthetic, the theatrics, the ridiculous choices, all of it. I love the faux-Tolkien mysticism the best, and it's embodied nowhere better than this clip - which I must have watched hundreds upon hundreds of times in my life. Meet Rhapsody, and their more-epic-than-epic Unholy Warcry.

This ticks all the boxes. Some dudes with long hair and robes? Check. Celtic castle with lightning? Yep. Burning skull? Fabio with six goddamn keyboards? Oh yes. Some guy reading from a big spellbook? Check and check. CHRISTOPHER LEE WITH A SWORD AND CROWN?? Holy crap, hold me.

These guys changed their name later to Rhapsody of Fire which I don't love as much. And shock horror, they cut their hair down the track, which is complete and utter bullshit. You can't do power metal with short back and sides. YOU JUST CANT.

Stay tuned for some upcoming gems from King Diamond, Tristania and Angel Dust!
