DC leftovers.

The all new relaunched DC titles are getting closer with some of the old titles already seeing their final issues. There's a lot of talk out there about these new titles but there a more than a few that DC seemed to forget to reboot.

Here are just four examples:

MANIAKS

The deal:
This was DC's answer to The Archies when the idea of teenagers playing music had just been invented.

The reboot:
Set it in modern days and add what is huge in music these days and that is androgyny and dubstep.

Did you know stand-up era Woody Allen appeared in an issue? Swap him with a Charlie Sheen or Russell Brand and I think you'd have a winner.

The creative team:
This can only be written and drawn by Paul Pope.

SWING WITH SCOOTER

The deal:
DC's answer the Archie (everybody had a LOT of answers to Archie) except he could get all the girls because he had a scooter and a guitar. Sometimes he was even English like the Beatles (but only sometimes).

The reboot:
Well obviously his scooter should now be a razor scooter. Play up the racist views of the Malibu guy by making him a Glenn Beck type railing against this (sometimes) Englishman stealing American women. Topical.

The creative team:
Sexy art by Adam Hughes with stories by Dave Sim.

Forget those 60's comics! Let's look at the modern era of the 1990's.

PSYBA RATS

The deal:
Aw yeah! The Psyba Rats were a group of hackers for hire that ended up getting powers because some aliens happened to them. My memory is hazy on them but I do recall that they did most of their hacking in a van and in buildings they had to break into and then base jump off of rather than just hacking from their home computers.

The reboot:
You know, with Wikileaks, Anonymous and Lulzsec i'd be surprised if something like this doesn't show up
somewhere soon. Give them all V for Vendetta masks and rename them the Psyba RatZ with a 'Z'.

The creative team:
Randall Munroe from xkcd on stories. It only makes sense that all the art be CGI so any one of these artists will do.

XENOBROOD

The deal:
Astra, Blip, Thrasher and Zapatak were four alien crystal seeds that got wet and grew into superheroes controlled by an Earth archeologist. The guy that drew it ended up making a movie starring the singer Pink.

The reboot:
Now this is a challenge! How about instead of superheroes they are crystals that get wet and turn into bigger crystals? Billy Crystals? The only thing I would keep is the massive ponytail that seems to be growing out of that one girl's forehead.

The creative team:
Rob Liefeld.

  1. I would never, ever believe that there was really a comic called Psyba Rats if I hadn't just seen the cover for myself. I am ASTOUNDED they didn't spell rats with a "z" in the first place!

  2. Best part about Psyba Rats is that they came out of the same crossover event (Bloodlines) that gave us Hitman's Tommy Monaghan. They were a Chuck Dixon thing, and the only other time I remember them showing up outside of their own book was during his run on Robin.

  3. They had a three issue miniseries which I got for some reason.
And yeah, a lot of horrible characters came out of Bloodlines.
